Who makes better digital cameras Sony or Canon and why?

I’m looking for a new camera and I’ve always been a big fan of Sony products, my mom has a Canon Powershot and I had a Sony Cyber-shot T70 I think, both camera are nice. But I want your opinion.

Are Sony digital cameras inferior?

I just bought a NEW 7.2 MP digital Sony camera and the photo quality sucks. A friend has a digital camera that takes bigger, clearer pictures that are HALF the file size. Its very evident when shrinking the pictures.

Can any memory card, battery, etc. work with Sony Digital Cameras?

I’m buying a sony digital camera soon, and I just want to know if they can take any other brand [you know,sandisk and stuff like that] memory cards. I’m not sure if the sony products are ONLY compatible with sony accessories.
