What is your honest recommendation on these cameras? (Camcorder for short films)?
I have been looking everywhere for a really good super high definition camcorder. I was only looking at getting a Sony Handycam HDR-XR160, Sony HDR-XR150, or a Sony HDR-XR550v. The only problem was that I stumbled upon a Canon T2i and the Canon 550D and they look spectacular. My question was which in reality would take better video and would look better apposed to video quality and clarity. Also, sound is very important to me because I like making short films. Most of the video’s on youtube for the Canon T2i/550D are all using Magic Bullet to give it that “cinematic look” would the “real” camcorders look slightly better because that is their main purpose? Please help me figure this out! Thank you.
Visual effect kits like the Magic bullet software have come so far, that it is, in my opinion much smarter to use a higher quality camera and add in the effect afterwards. It gives you more control over the effect. I just shot a short film with the cannon 5d and then went back in and added the effects I wanted. It turned out beautifully.
As for a “real” camcorder vs a camera– like I said, go with the 5d route. http://vimeo.com/23492466 here is our film. It was done with a 5d, just like the entire last season of House. Trust me man, 5d is the way to go.
