Orion 1.25

A few questions about telescope accessories (I have a new 8″ Dob.; f5.9, 1200mm Focal Length).?

The only thing I have right now to go with it are the following eyepieces: 9.7mm and 20mm Meade 4000 Super Plossls, and a Orion 25mm Sirius Plossl. I enjoy planetary viewing, but am excited about the possibility of picking up galaxies and nebula in the new scope. SO……
1. What would be the first three accesories you would buy if you were me? Why?
2. Short vs. Long Barlows – What’s the difference.
3. My scope will accept 1.25′s and 2″ eyepieces. Should I spend money initially on 2′s?
4. Good filters – bad filters – What’s the difference?
5. Brand names to look for and to stay away from on eyepieces.
6. Televue plossl or Orion ED? Which is superior. What eyepieces (brand too) are the best for the price?

I know this is a pretty long question. Feel free to answer only the parts you want. Best Answer to whoever is the most helpful. In advance to all who respond – Thanks for spending the time on this one. I appreciate your input.

The very first “accessory” that I would recommend is a membership to a local Astronomical Society or Astronomy club in your area.
If you join a club, you can attend their star parties and try out for yourself each and every one of the accessories that you mentioned above, first hand, before you spend your money on something that you might not like. Club members are very helpful when it comes to checking out new “toys” and gadgets for scopes. They can also show you how to get the very most out of your new scope and show you where all the wonderful treasures in the sky are located. These clubs have lots of loaner equipment, guest speakers at membership meetings, lending libraries, and you won’t believe how nice these people are so all the new friends you make will stick with you for a lifetime. Go to this site to find a club in your area. http://www.astroleague.org/societies/list
This only has clubs that belong to the National Astronomy League, so there are many more which do not appear on this list. Continue searching google if you don’t see one in your area here.
