Nikon 18-55mm F/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX Nikkor Zoom Lens

Nikon D40 or Nikon D3000, which is better?

I’m looking to get a Nikon (D40 or D3000) but I’m not to sure which one is better?

The Nikon D3000 DSLR Camera Two-Lens Outfit (18-55 VR & AF-S DX 55-200mm F/4-5.6G ED) I can get for $600 or $500 without the 55-200mm lens.

Or I can get the Nikon D40 Digital Camera SLR Body with 18-55MM LENS – 6.1 Megapixel, 3x 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED II AF-S DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens, for $500.

Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Since the price with the 18-55mm lens is the same for both the models and D3000 feature a VR lens for the same price, then it makes sense to go for the newer model with the added advantage of VR (though you may rarely use it in that focal length range).

Don’t buy the 55-200mm lens now and do so only when you start using the 18-55mm lens and feel the need for the longer focal length.
